" The cultural relevance, historical significance and the grandeur of the architecture and art of Chhayabahal Matha are in dire need of conservation and restoration. Heritage is not something we can purchase with money. We need to make efforts to protect and conserve it otherwise it will be lost forever."
Dr. Maheswar P. Bharati, Senior Family Member
The Chhayabahal Matha is one of the five monastic buildings of ascetics (Jogis)in Patan.
The Kathmandu valley, which used to be filled with temples, pagodas and other architectural wonders has been undergoing massive transformation. The aesthetic beauty of the valley is also arguably disappearing. Only a few centuries ago, the Kathmandu valley used to be an established pilgrimage site for religious devotees, artists and artisans and scholars. Today, the value placed on morality, art and culture has fallen behind materialistic pursuits. Corruption and lack of integrity is rampant at all levels of society. Therefore, there is an urgent need to preserve the very few sacred places still left, like the Chhayabahal Matha in Patan.

The main goal of the CMF is the conservation and promotion of both the tangible (physical structure) and intangible (religious, cultural and spiritual significance) heritage of Chhahabahal Matha for future generations.
We welcome donations from everyone who would like to contribute to saving Nepali cultural and architectural heritage. Please scroll down to access the donation button and bank details. THANK YOU!!
